UGANDA!

Hey all!

So after reading my first blog post and realizing it really didn’t describe what I’ll be doing during my two plus years over here I figured I’d write about that here.

So I am currently serving in the Peace Corps in Uganda. I’ll be moving to the southwest part of Uganda in August (currently near Kampala for training) to a place called Bubangizi. It’s a rural village in the Mitooma district. I’ll be at a faith based NGO that serves as a health center III called the Bubangizi Health Center III. My role there will be health education in a community setting at the health center and also traveling out to different schools in the area. I’ll be doing a lot with HIV/AIDS education and nutrition education. I’ll also focus on clean water/ hygiene practices which I’m really excited about seeing that is what I did with Engineers without boarders (which was awesome!). Overall I could not be more excited about where I will be headed.It will be a place full of opportunity and just overall excitement.

They also had the desire to start up some sort of exercise programs there which I’ll have the chance to hopefully work on  as a side project which will also be super awesome.

As for a little bit about the southwest part of Uganda, well, it’s the prettiest (so I’m told) and it’s also the coolest, both in temperature and overall awesomeness. But the southwest boarders Rwanda, Tanzania, and the DRC (not allowed to go to the last one). There are many national parks I plan on going to, many of which promise chances to see gorillas. Overall it was the area I wanted to be in, not just because that is where the job I wanted was, but I also like sleeping with a blanket and pretty views.

The next step we take is moving in with a host family in our region for 4 weeks for culture immersion and language training. And seeing that I can’t even pronounce the name of the language I will be learning (not even going to try and spell it), I’m sure it will be a challenge. But I’m looking forward to it.

Overall, Uganda has been amazing so far. It’s still really fresh and I’m sure there will be many ups and downs to come, but as of now, living in this country has been a complete blast. All the people I have met have already become like family.

I know the next part of the journey will require lots of faith, but as Patrick Overton so awesomely put it:
